DIMBULLA ESTATE
O u r S t o r y
Dimbulla Estate is named after Dimbulla region in the western highlands of Sri Lanka, where the famous tea estates are located. The cool evenings and hot sunny days are a link with my childhood.
The land where Dimbulla Estate stands was in the heart of the early coal mining area but has long since returned to farming, agriculture and, especially, viticulture and olive groves.
At the time of the First World War, timber from the district was dragged to a small gully and burnt in furnaces to produce an ingredient essential for gunpowder. This section of the estate has been named Charcoal Gully Block and here we grow our Shiraz grapes with their distinctive characteristics of earthy tannins and dusky oak.
The early European settlers brought the knowledge, experience and tradition of wine making to the new world. At Dimbulla Estate we are committed to pursuing this tradition. We are a young vineyard and as our vines mature, the quality of our wines are evolving season by season.
